TUSCANY, ITALY · BEST APRIL-JUNE & SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER
Florence
Walkable, gorgeous, and packed with experiences that go so far beyond the museums.
Why we love it
—Almost entirely walkable — you can cover so much of the city on foot with kids
—The charming streets, beautiful architecture, and detail around every corner
—World-class shopping — especially the leather market and artisan boutiques
—The leather-making class: one of the most unique and memorable experiences we've done anywhere in Europe
—The cathedral (Duomo) illuminated at night is one of the most beautiful sights in the world
—An ideal base for exploring all of Tuscany — day trips to wine country, hilltop towns, and the coast are easy from here
Our tip
Book a cooking class and a food tour — non-negotiable. Both experiences will completely change how you think about Italian food, and they give the kids something hands-on to do that they'll talk about for years. For the cathedral, go back after dark: the Duomo lit up at night is worth a second trip out just to see it.
